  6. Another way some lenses are worn is on 
  7. what we call an extended wear schedule.  
  8. The lenses are put on and worn for more 
  9. than one day at a time.  The patient sleeps 
  10. with the lenses on for up to a maximum 
  11. recommended time of one week, although 
  12. some patients may not comply and wear 
  13. them longer.  In the U.S. the Food and Drug 
  14. Administration (FDA), which regulates 
  15. medical devices, has approved them for no 
  16. longer than a week without removal.

  18. The reason there is this limitation is that the more days they are worn the greater the risk of corneal infections (ulcers) and other problems.
